Early Season bike hiring.

The 2014 season has started.

The first hardy cyclists have hired bikes as part of their half-term breaks. It was brilliant to see the smiles on the faces of a father and son when they brought their bikes back after what must have been a mud-fest. Bikes and riders both showed the evidence, despite the glorious sunny weather that day.

More on the new bikes

After yesterday’s storm, today is calm and bright, giving Graham the chance to try out one of the new bikes. He noticed the slight decrease in manoeuvrability compared with 26 inch wheeled mountain bikes but found the improved comfort of the ride and ease of climbing uphill more than compensated for that. I was pleased to hear that the 20″ frame was a little too large for Graham who, at 6’1″ is not as tall as some.  One reason for choosing larger-wheeled models was that they might suit taller riders – we await feedback.

New Prehistory Cycle Tours

Local archaeologist, Helen Manley Jones starts her guided prehistory tours this Spring.

She will be running weekly car tours every Thursday, starting at Newport’s Tourist Information Centre and finishing with a visit to Castell Henllys Iron Age Village.

We are working with her on a bicycle version of the tours. The routes are not yet finalised – there is such a wealth of ancient sites in North Pembrokeshire that the possibilities seem almost endless. However, we are thinking in terms of three cycle routes to cater for different abilities/tastes.

More detail is on its way – we aim to have it all ready for Easter.

In the meantime you can contact Helen via her website ycwtch.com
